LANCET A review of anti-obesity drugs suggests their use is limited by modest efficacy and the low numbers of patients who persist with treatment.

The analysis, which included orlistat (Xenical), sibutramine (Reductil) and rimonabant (Acomplia), concluded that studies of anti-obesity drugs to date were notable for their high attrition rates and lack of data on major obesity-related morbidity.

Rimonabant, the first of the endocannabinoid receptor antagonists, is not yet available in Australia.
